    Iraq Invades Kuwait
    Saddam launched an all out attack on Iraq's tiny neighbor to the south, the oil-rich sheikdom of Kuwait. Saddam hoped to swallow up Kuwait, thus increasing Iraq's already large oil reserves to about 25 percent of the world's total.

    In the Soviet Union, nationalist and anticommunist groups demanded more local control of their affairs. President Gorbachev opposed it but tried to set up a compromise. In August, hard-line communists attempted a coup. They arrested Gorbachev but Boris Yeltsin defied the rebels and created a federation of states, of which Russia.

    On Februrary 23, Bush issued an ultimatum to Saddam: pull out of Kuwait or face an invasion. When Saddam ignored the deadline and the UN troops attacked. Bush called the assault "Desert Storm". They retook Kuwait and killed thousands of Iraqis.

The results of the election for the electoral votes was Clinton with 370, Bush had 168 and Perot did not have any electoral votes. In the popular vote 44 million people voted for Clinton, 38 million for Bush, and 20 million for Perot. Bush thought he would win easily but Clinton came out on top,

    Clinton wanted employer's to provide health insurance coverage to all of the employees. Due to heavy opposition the plan failed to pass in Congress and it was soon discarded and wasn't pushed for again in his presidency.

    In the 1994 Congressional elections, the Republican party took advantage of the scandals that Clinton was under going to take majority in both houses of congress. After the elections the majority was in place and economic reform was beginning to take place. The final product, led by Speaker of the House, Gingrich, the Contract with America was approved.

    The Kosovo War was an armed conflict in Kosovo that was fought by the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which controlled Kosovo before the war. The resistant to their leadership was fought by the Kosovo Liberation Army with air support from the NATO troops. After attempts between the two to reach diplomatic solution failed, NATO intervened. They justified their campaign in Kosovo as a " humanitarian war " .

    Paula Corbin Jones showed that Clinton had a history of propositioning women, and subpoenaed a former White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. Clinton and Lewinsky both denied the charges. They appeared to have lied under oath and Starr threatened to indict Lewinsky for perjury. Republican leaders in the house impeached Clinton on the grounds that he had committed perjury and had obstructed justice by inducing Lewinsky and others to give false testimony in the Jones Case.
