During this two year span, Allied forces liberated numerous concentration camps that held thousands of prisoners. In captured SS reports, there were more than 700,000 prisoners left in camps in January of 1945.

Brigadier General Anthony C. Mcauliffe refuses to surrender in Bastogne

Dec 22, 1944

Allied forces were in danger of being over ran by German forces in Bastogne. When demans were sent for surrender, McAuliffe replied with a one word reply "Nuts" to German command.

RAF bombers level the city of Dresden in Germany

Feb 13, 1945

805 RAF (Royal Air Force) bombers from Englad leveled this city, killing over 130,000 of its inhabitiants

Adolph Hitler commits suicide

Apr 30, 1945

On this day, Germany's dictator commited suicide in his air raid shelter by consuming a cyanide capsule and then proceding to shoot himself with a pistol.
