World War II, commonly abbreviated as WWII, was a global war spanning from 1939 to 1945. It only ended in 1945 after the invention of the nuclear bomb. The two sides of the war were the Allies, primarily consisting of the United States, China, The Soviet Union, France, and the United Kingdom. The other side of the war was the Axis, primarily consisting of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allies won the war after the Japanese surrender in 1945.

The Battle of Midway was one of the primary battles in the Pacific Theater of WWII. It was the first major American victory in the Pacific and was one of the most decisive victories in WWII. The Normandy landings were the first steps the Allies took in order to retake Europe from the Axis powers. It ended in roughly 10,000 Allied casualties and over 4,000 confirmed dead. It ended with the Allies gaining a foothold in western Europe and started the liberation of France.

The dropping of nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked a turning point in the age of war and ushered the world into the Nuclear Age. The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, the second was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9. The dropping of these two bombs forced the Japanese Empire into surrender and ended WWII.

The Korean War was the Korean civil war that took place between 1950 and 1953. It ended with the division of Korea, with a communist regime ruling in the north and a democratic republic governing in the south. The Korean War is often attributed to the continual tensions stirred up by the Cold War, leading to U.S. Involvement. The fighting ended with the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953.
