  • The Katyn Forest Massacre

    The Katyn Forest Massacre
    This massacre was a series of mass executions of Polish nationals carried out by a Soviet secret police organization called NKVD. The bodies of the apolish officers were discovered by the German Army on March 5 1940. The killings took place in Katyn Forest in Russia and the Kalinin and Kharkiv prisons. Victim deaths were estimated at 22,000.

  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack by the Japanese Navy Air Service against the U.S. naval base. It took place at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7 1941. The Japanese attacked the U.S. to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions that were planned in Southeast Asia against overseas territory (UK, Netherlands, and U.S.).
  • The Bataan Death March

    The Bataan Death March
    This death march was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army. Filipino and American prisoners of war were loaded onto the trains for transfer. Then, a 85 mile march was executed and had to be completed within 6 days. The prisoners experienced physical abuse and wanton killings. Because of the harsh conditions and only one meal throughout the journey, prisoners had died from starvation, mistreatment, and disease.

    Rosie the Riveter is known for being an icon that represented women who worked in factories and shipyards. It first appeared on May 29th 1943 on an edition of the Saturday Evening Post. Rosie symbolizes American feminism and women’s economic power. The purpose of this ad was to encourage women to volunteer for wartime service in factories.

    These trials took place in Nuremberg, Germany, and they were held in order to bring the Nazi war criminals to justice. The defendants included Nazi Party officials and high-ranking military officers. The leaders were brought to trial for crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan became effective on June 3 1948. Also known as the European Recovery Program, it was designed to rebuild Western European economies during WW2. The U.S. was assisting the European Economy with direct financial aid. This plan aimed to help the devestation Europe experienced during the conflicts in WW2.

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance between North American and European countries. This treaty was signed April 4th 1949 in Washington D.C., and provides security against the Soviet Union. Additionally, the member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.
