The U.S. launched the first satilite to go into space. it took 98 minutes. October 4th, 1957 was when it was launched. it began the 'race for space' between the soviets and the americans. -
Poineer Space Missions
USAF, NASA, and the TRW helped make the missions. 15 space probes were launched. It took place in cape Canaveral. The missons were from August 17, 1958 to August 8, 1978. -
Venera Probes
The soviet Union made the venera probes to venus. there were 16 missions and 4- 16 were the only ones to succseed. The first on launched was on febuary 1961. -

NASA made the mariner to investigate mars, venus and Murcury. The program went from 1962 - 1972. Many Space crafts were launched all in this time. -

NASA made it and it lasted for 175 days, three people were on it and it was from April 19, 1971. Russia had the first succsesful launch in 1978. There was launches by the U.S., Russia, and China. -

Magellan Space Program
NASA launched the magellan towards venus and it discoved that venus has volcanic spots and was a young planet. It launch on May 4, 1989 and crashed on venus on October 11, 1994. It also costs about 315.5 million dollars. -
Galileo Spacecraft
NASA Launched a scapecraft to go to jupiter and explore its moons. it took 6 years and 2 months to get there. it was in space for 14 years. -
Hubble telescope
The telescope was 24,500 pounds and 43.5 feet long. It was launched becasue was wanted to know more about the galaxy and what was in our solar system. -
N.E.A.R Mision
NASA funded a mission that was supposed to fly by astroids and collect samples. It was launched fubuary 17, 1996, It costs 120 million dollars and it took 69 pictures. -
Mars Rovers
NASA and the JPL made rovers to explore mars. The first succesful landing came after two bad ones on July 3, 1997. The two last rovers launched are still working. It costs about 820 million dollars and itall the rovers traveled about 280 million miles. -

Genisis Spacecraft
NASA, CIT, and JPL made the genisis, its goal was to collect things in space and then gain enough energy to reenter the atmospher. Sadly it crashed and humans were not able to recover anything. it launched on 8/8/01 and was in space for 886 days.
