    Rolling thunder was an attack scheme to bomb the North Vienamese. The US would start slowly and graudally let more bomb off over time. At first the main targets were highwaym, railroads, and bridges.
  • US Offers Peace For Economic Aid Proposal

    The United States offered economic aid for peace in the war against the North Vietnamese. North Vietnam rejected the offer so the US sent in more troops.
  • First Major Battle of Vietnam War for American Units

    The US launched Operation Starlite which the US attacked with their first battle. The Us won the battle with only 45 deaths while the NVA lost 700 people.This happen at the marine base at Chu Lai.
  • President Johnson Commits over 60,000 Troops to Vietnam

    By this point in the war, the US is fully involved. Their only successfull way out now is by winning the war all-together

    The US hopes and waits for South Vietnam to become democratic
  • Operation Junction City

    The US spent a little over two months in War Zone C, just north of Saigon. Their mission was to go to the Vietcong headquarters and take out it's base.
  • Khe Sanh Attacked by Vietcong

    The attack by the Vietcong on the US only lasted for two days. A US base stationed in Khe Sanh saw nearly 20 deaths and left 40 seriously wounded.
  • Tet Offensive Begins

    Vietcong attack the US an southern Vietnamese troops in South Vietnam. The Vietcong lost 37,000 men in the battle and the US lost 2,500 which lost the publics support.
  • My Lai Massacre

    US troops invaded the small village of My Lai, killing around 200 civillians.
  • Rolling Thunder Ends

    The US had lost an estimated 900 aircrafts. Nearly 1,000 piolets were either dead, gone missing or captured. Rolling thunder killed 182,000 North Vietnamese civilians and 20,000 chinese support personal.

    This is teh end of the Vietnam War as the last two US marines died. The War lasted 15 years and North Vietnam took over South Vietnam after the US left Vietnam.
