The Battle of Britain was the German air force's attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF starting in July ending in September. Their ultimate failure was one of the turning points of World War Two and prevented Germany from ever invading Britain.

Also known as Operation Typhoon. This final phase to take Moscow failed because of the harsh Russian winters. Germany eventually had to back out of Moscow, when the Russians attacked.

This was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. It was meant to keep the US from interfering with the military actions Japan was going to make against the over seas territories of some of the Allies.

The Battle of Miday is thought to be the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The United States Navy defeated a Japanese Navy attack against Midway Atoll, inflicting irreparable damage on the Japanese fleet.

Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded.

The Soviets liberated Auschwitz, the largest extermination and concentration camp. Soviet soldiers found only several thousand emaciated prisoners alive when they entered the camp. There was abundant evidence of mass murder in Auschwitz.

The Buchenwald concentration camp was liberated by four soldiers in the US Third Army, Just before the Americans arrived, the camp had already been taken over by the Communist prisoners who had killed some of the guards and forced the rest to flee into the nearby woods.
