Many of Donatello's masterpieces are located in Florence. Some of these masterpieces include: St. Peter, St. Mark, Zuccone, St. George and the Dragon, St. John the Evangelist, Magdalen, and Angel with Tambourine. Other pieces considered to be some of his finest work are: Herod's Feast, St. Louis of Toulouse, St. Peter, St. Anthony, an equestrian statue called Gattamelata, and Jeremiah.

He painted the Virgin of the Rocks and the Last Supper. In 1499, Leonardo left Milan, traveling through Mantua to the court of Isabella d'Este; to Venice, where he consulted on architecture from 1495 to 1499; and in 1502 and 1503 was military engineer for Cesare Borgia.

From 1535-1536 Mercator made terrestrial globes for several rich individuals. In 1537 Mercator constructed a globe of the stars. He was the first to use longitude and latitude for sailors. Mercator was also very good at making an accurate map of Western Europe.

He found that while the two poles of the magnetic needle pointed approximately north and south -- the north pole dipped downward in England and that the farther north one went the more the needle dipped.He made a model of the earth from a sphere of iron, magnetized it by rubbing it with a lodestone, and found that when he brought a magnetic needle near it, the needle would come to rest dipping straight down at the poles of the model.

Galileo was the greatest scientist who ever lived.In 1632 he published an important book of the dialogues concerning the two chief world systems of Ptolemy and Copernicus.He spent the remaining years in a country house under arrest where he was watched closely but was allowed to continue his scientific work. In 1630 he became blind after completing his second major book of dialogues concerning the two new sciences. The book was smuggled to Holland where it was published in 1639.
