    Between 1420 and 1436, admiring Florentines watched the architect, Burnelleschi build a dome ontop of the Cathedral of Florence. When it was done it stood 370 feet above street level.

    Masaccio is commissioned
    Masaccio was commissioned by Giuliano for the sum of 80 florins, to paint a major altarpiece, the Pisa Altarpiece, for his chapel in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Pisa.

    St. George completed!

    St. George completed!
    In 1417 Donatello completed the St. George for the Confraternity of the Cuirass-makers. The elegant St. George is one of the first examples of central-point perspective in sculpture.

    Lorenzo Ghiberti finishes doors!
    Lorenzo Ghiberti makes the first set of bronze doors for the Baptistery of the cathedral in Florence. They were magnificent and divided into panels, each showing a scene from the bible.

    Sistine Chapel

    Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel which took about four years to complete.It is part of a larger scheme of decoration within the chapel which represents much of the doctrine of the Catholic Church.

    "On the Motion of the Heart and Blood" was published in 1628 in the city of Frankfurt. This 72 page book contains the matured account of the circulation of the blood.

    Galileo designed the pendulum clocks in 1637. He thought of the idea while in church. His experiments with pendulums led to the development of more accurate clocks and watches.

    Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the mercury thermometer in 1714. It is still used today all around the world. He created it to measure temperature and by putting class into a glass tube with marked spaces.
