  • 7 Years War

    The Seven Years War was the first global conflict. The fighting started with Frederick II of Prussia's invasion and defeat of Saxony (August-October 1756), although the main conflict did not start until the following year.
  • Revolution in Haiti

    The slaves rose up In 1791 and by 1803 had driven the whites out of Saint-Domingue. The Haitian war of independence began in flames under the leadership of a religious leader named Boukman.
  • Mexico's Independence

    The people of New Spain began to rebel against their government. The independence movement started in earnest the moment Napoleon III, through political sleight-of-hand, proclaimed his brother Joseph Bonapart King of Spain.
  • Brazil's Independence

    Brazil was named after a type of wood, brazilwood. (This brazilwood would become Brazil's main export in the coming years). Brazil gained its independence from Portugal in 1822 in a bloodless revolt.
  • Battle of Ayacucho

    Sucre opened the attack with a brilliant cavalry charge led by the daring Colombian José María Córdoba, and in a short time the royalist army had been routed, with about 2,000 men killed. The terms of surrender stipulated that all Spanish forces be withdrawn from both Peru and Charcas (Bolivia); the last of them departed from Callao, the port of Lima
  • Battle of Navarino

    The battle was fought in the Bay of Navarin in the southwestern Peloponnese, between an Egyptian-Turkish fleet under Tahir Pasha and a combined British-French-Russian fleet under Admiral Sir Edward Codrington.The European allies had hoped to resolve the conflict by a simple show of force, but upon arrival their squadrons were immediately fired on by the opposing Egyptian and Turkish naval force.

  • Crimean War

    The war started in 1861 and ended in 1865. that Confederate forces under General P. G. T. Beauregard fired on Fort Sumter, is the accepted start of the Civil War.

    Also called the Seven Weeks' War. The "Schleswig-Holstein question" was the cause of the war
  • Canada's Independence

    Canada acquired the vast possessions of the Hudson's Bay Company, and within a decade the provinces of Manitoba and Prince Edward Island had joined the Canadian federation. a movement for a greater Canadian federation grew out of the need for a common defense, the desire for a national railroad system, and the necessity of finding a solution to the problem of French and British conflict.
