Birth of a Nation: Road to Constitution

  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was issued making illegal any settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act is a tax issued by the King placing an extra tax on all paper products in the colonies.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre started as a protest and ends with 3 people killed at the hands of the British soldiers. One of the dead is African-American sailor Cripus Attucks.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    Colonials dressed as Indians board a mercahnt ship and dispose of British Tea as a reaction to the Tea Act passed months before.
  • The Intolerables

    From March until June several acts are passed allowing the British to control the colonist. These acts are seen as an intorable abuse of power.
  • The First Continental Congress

    From September 5 through October 26 the First Continental Congress meets in Philadelphia. The Congress declared to boycott British goods until the Intolerable Acts were rescinded.
  • Patrick Henry

    Patrink Henry SpeechPatrick Henry gives famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech.
  • Revolutionary War Begins

    Battle of Lexington and Concord. "Shot Heard Round the World".
    This is the official beginning of the Revolutionary War.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of ConfederationThe Articles of Confederation are adopted. The Articles are the precursor to the American Constitution.
  • Constitutional Convention

    55 representatives meet to draw up the Constitution. The close in September with the signing.
  • US Constitution is Signed

    US Constitution is signed by the representatives of the colonies. This begins the ratification process and makes the constitution the law of the land.
