How to change the oil in a vehicle

  • Perchase New Oil

    First you will want to purchase new oil before draining the old oil from the vehicle. This is very important!
  • Locate OIl Pan Drain

    Second, you will want to locate the Oild pan drain which is located on the bottom of the vehicle and remove the bold. Be sure to have some type of sontainer that can hold aat least 8 Quarts.
  • Remove the Old Oil Filter

    Remove the Old Oil Filter
    Third, find the location of the oil filter on the vehicle and remove it. Some oil will also drain from this location so keep the old oil container underneath this location. Be sure to remove the old seal from the location also or this could cause a major mess.
  • Install New Oil filter

    Install New Oil filter
    Next you will install the new oil filter so that the car can function properly. Be sure to use some oil to lubricate the seal on the new oil filter before screwing it to the engine. It is also important to reinsert the oild pan drain bolt and tighten it so that the car will not leak oil from this point on.
  • Fill the car with oil

    Locate the oil fill cap under the hood of the car and remove the cap and pour the appointed amount of oil into the spout.
  • Locate the dip stick

    After filling the car with oil, locate the dipstick. The dipstick on most vehicles is mark with some form of a yellow or orange handle. Remove the dipstick and clean it. Reinsert it and remove once again in order to check the oil level of the vehicle.
  • Make sure oil is at correct level

    Make sure oil is at correct level
    Finally, make sure that the oil level on the dipstick shows that it is in the normal range. It is better for the oil level to be on the higher end of the normal range so that the car does not go without oil. It is also important that you do not overfill the car with oil either.Remember to add a little oild and then check the level. It is easier to add a little more oil if needed than to overfil and have todrain oil in order to get the right level. Be sure to change the oil every 3-5,000 miles.
