  • Jamestown Settled

    The first permanent English settlement in the United States of America, founded by the London Company.
  • Mayflower Compact

    This document gave the separatists the right to freely practice Christianity.
  • Petition Of Right

    Challenged the idea of the divine right of Kings and declared that even the monarch was subject to the laws of land.
  • English Bill of Rights

    A bill that laid out basic civil and political rights to Englishmen, which are still in effect today.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Benjamin Franklin's attempt to unite the 13 colonies.
  • American Revolution Begins

    This is when the colonies all united to finally break free of British Rule.
  • Stamp Act

    A direct tax imposed by the British Parliament specifically on the colonies of British America in order to weaken and control them.
  • Boston Massacre

    British soldiers fired in American protesting crowd, which was considered violent, killing five people, and injuring eleven. This event led towards strong rebellion towars Britian.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A resistance movement by the colonists, sparked by a tax that England put on their tea. They dumped quite a bit of tea in the water.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts, also called the Coercive Acts, were a series of acts that punished the Boston Tea Party and enraged the colonists. They included the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts and the Declaratory Acts.
  • First Continental Congress

    For two months, delegates from every colony (except Georgia) met and debated plans for action in response to the Intolerable Acts which included drafting a Declaration of Rights. The meeting also called for a complete boycott of all English goods in all of the colonies.

    A second convention of the colonie's delegates, slowly moving towards independence, and eventually adopting the Declaration of Independence.
