A group forced King John to sign the magna carta. The group that developed magna carta wanted the king to lose power. This was the first time the king(john) was lossing power -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was signed by fourty-one male pilgrims. The men agreed to form a temporary government and be bound by its laws. -
Petition of Rights
the petition of rights takes several powers away from the king. therefor the king had more power before the petition of rights. Also, that the king doesnt impose martial laws. this right challengend the kigs rights. the documents meant that the king had no right to put anyone into jail. -
Navigation Act.
The Navigation Acts were laws that restricted the use of foreign trade and shipping between England and its colonies which started in 1651 (I couldn't find the exact day). The significance is the attempt to enforce the acts helped cause the war of American Independence. -
English bill of rights
An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject and Settling the Succession of the Crown.The English Bill of Rights is what the American Bill of Rights is based on and improved on. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress brought together representatives from each of the colonies, except Georgia, to discuss their response to the British. -

Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was passed in 1764. The British placed a tax on sugar, wine, and other important things. The British did this because they wanted more money; the British wanted this money to help provide more security for the colonies. The security was expensive because of the Indians and fights with foreign powers. People where very angry with the sugar act because more taxes and they didnt have money for all the taxes that wgere aproved on before the sugar act. -
Stamp Act
stamp act was passed in 1765. the did require llegal documents. so is you had a stamp act on any documents that means you had to pay a tax. everyone hated it because there was no point for having a stamp act. -
Boston Tea Party
The year that the boston party occured in december 16,1773. A group of men dressed up as native americans and surrounded 3 tea ships. They took the tea and dumped it into the sea. the reason behind all this was because King George Raised the taxes. -
First shots fired at Lexington and Concord
This was the first shot fired between American and British troops. No one is still sure who fired first, but it was the "shot heard 'round the world". Turning Point in American History -
Second Continental Congress
The congress was starting to discuss war strategies for the Revolution which had barely begun.The Second Continental Congress started on May 10, 1775. The delegates of the 13 colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss their next steps. -
Declarattion of Independence
The decleration of independence was writen by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776. The Declaration of Independence is a document that Americans signed to prove to the King of England that all thirteen colonies agreed they should have the right to be free.
