    In the year 1640, the oldest known condoms are found in Dudley Castle in Birmingham, England. These condoms were made of fish and animal intestines, and used to prevent STD's (and not as much for contraception).

    Giacomo Casanova began to wear condoms made from lamb intestine to prevent pregnancy.
  • DIFFUSION

  • Rubber condoms are invented

    Charles Goodyear patented rubber condoms and they were soon mass produced. These condoms were made to be used more than once. They would be washed, and put away in a wooden box for later use.

    From 1844-1873, in addition to condoms, there was a wide sale of other alternatives such as:

  • Condom's cause birth rate to drop by 50%

    Becuase of the modernization of condoms in the US, the birth rate drops by 50%.
  • First birth control pill

    The first birth control pill is created. It is 100% effective but has terrible health threats such as blood clots. It was soon realized that the dosage was about 10X too high than necessary.
  • Pregnancy Shot

    A hormone shot to prevent pregnancy is created. Women must recieve this shot once every few months to stay infertile.
  • The "Morning after" Pill

    Emergency contraception is created where women can take the pill up to 72 hours after having sex to prevent pregnancy.
