In 1565, John Hawkyns sold 300 African men and made England's first slavetrade. Black slaves began appearing in England a few years later.

In the early eighteenth century the political map changed and The United Kingdom had now become. The number of African men, women and children increased - 14000 black people lived now in England.

The trade was abolished by a movement where the abolitionists brought a famous case to the court. But it was rejected because of the trade's importance for the UK economy.
