  • Herbert Hoover takes office

    Herbert Hoover takes office
    President Hoover was the 31st president. He represented the Republican party and campained "economic modernization".
  • The Dust Bowl

    The Dust Bowl
    The dust bowl lasted seven years. The lands of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico were dried out and useless. This lead to droughts and constant dust storms.
  • RFC

    RFC
    The RFC (reconstructed finance corporation) was put into place after world war 1. President Hoover gave money to banks, railroads, and other bussinesses. This was continued with the New Deal
  • The Bonus Army

    The Bonus Army
    Around 43,000 war veterans marched on washington to get there promiced bonus. These men had nothing left and they needed the bonus. They set up Hoovervills, Gen. McArther charged on the veterans and 55 died.

    President Roosevelt came into office deep into the depression, his plans to get the country out of this mess was known as the new deal. His personality made him instantly likable

    After world war 1 Germany was in a huge depression and there unemployment rate kept rising. People were wanted change they needed change. Hiter did have supporters but in 1933 he was not brought into power by democracy.

    FDR entered into office and began the new deal. This plan focused of the 3Rs relief, reform, and recovery, he also gave unemployment money in order to prevent another depression.

    Father Charles Coughlin was one of the first people using radio to speak out aout there veiws. Coughlin was a supporter of FDR but he soon turned into a critic. Coughlin also began known as an antisemitic with his attacks on Jewish bankers.

    The Indian Reorganization act gave native americans rights to there lands again, they did not require the tribes to adopt a constitution. If they choose to there were specific rules to follow.This act was also known as the Wheeler-Howard act.

    In President Roosevelts first term in office he passed social welfare problems. He was the first president to give aid to the elderly, this was part of his "new deal".

    In Flint, Michigan the UAW started a sit-down strike. This happened in other towns and led to urbanization in the car industry.

    The rape of Nanjing took place in Japan for six weeks. During these weeks hundreds of thousands of Chinese people were, and 20,000 to 80,000 women were raped by Japanese nationalists

    The Grapes of Wrath was written by John Stienbeck. In the novel he focused of the life of poor farmers and how life was because of the dust bowl.

    The U.S passed neutality acts to prevent themselves from becoming invloved in the war. However it was impossible to stay neutral because they were selling arms to both sides for money.
