  • The Bonus Army

    They march on Washington D.C. to protest about the bonuses Hoover promised. He sends in the army to evacuate them. They resist, so the army sends in tear gas and burns their "Hoovervilles".
  • Hitler Takes Power

    In the midst of the backlash of WWI, Hitler steps up and promises the German people power and hope that they hadn't seen in years. For this reason, they elect Hitler into office.
  • FDR Elected

    Won the vote over Hoover since many despised Hoover and blamed him for the Depression.
  • The New Deal

    The new economic reforms enacted by Franklin D. Roosevelt to help to relieve the Depression.
  • Father Coughlin Attacks FDR, Jews

    He was a supporter of FDR's policies early on, but then became a sharp critic, thinking he was too friendly to bankers. He then began a union to get "Social Justice."
  • Indian Reorganization Act

    Gave Indians their right to be their own governments. They would govern themselves and be funded by the government.
  • Social Security Act

    Benefits for retirement from Roosevelt's New Deal.
  • Neutrality Acts

    For the next few years, neutrality acts will be passed to allow trading arms wtih other countries.
  • The Dust Bowl

    The area of the United States where it was attempted to plow but became an infertile plot of land. It covered 100,000 acres of the southwest region of the country.
  • GM sit-down strike

    GM auto workers went on strike and occupied the GM Plant in a sit down strike. This went on for a year until they eventually came to an agreement.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Japan invaded the Chinese city of Nanking and pillaged and raped the city.
  • The Grapes Of Wrath

    A portrayal of the Great Depression. It was thought to be a piece of Communist literature. John Steinbeck, the author, received death threats for writing it.
