    The American Film Institute honored Robert De Niro with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Director and longtime friend of De Niro, Martin Scorsese, presented the award. Leonardo Dicaprio, Sean Penn, Billy Crystal, Jodie Foster, and Joe Pesci were just a few of the actors that saluted De Niro at the ceremony. De Niro voiced his appreciation to all of them, espeically Scorsese, who is "so dear" to him.

    The Cecil B. DeMille Award is also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Matt Damon presented De Niro with the award and joked that he just heard about De Niro when they filmed "The Good Sheperd" together. Upon reaching the podium, De Niro told Damon that he loved his work in "The Fighter," a film that Damon did not star in (Mark Wahlberg was the lead in that film).
