Japan kicks a sleeping giant when it performs a large-scale aerial attack on the major US Pacific military stronghold. America's president at the time Franklin Delano Roosevelt urges the congress the declare war, and alas the United States enters the war on the side of the Allies. -
Allied troops land on Normandy.
The assault begins as amphibious vehicles carrying soldiers hit the beaches. Many thousands arrive and a vast number who show up are killed by German machine guns and artillery. Eventually the forces manage to take out the bunkers overlooking the beaches and advance into German-occupied France. -
Battle of the Bulge begins.
The Germans attempt to reverse the Allied advance by launching a massive counter-offense campaign aimed at retaking eastern France. -

The short-lived German advance grinds to a halt and the Allied forces begin to push on into enemy territory once again. -
Hitler dies.
The infamous dictator and his wife commit suicide in the Fuhrerbunker. After he shoots himself his henchmen burn his body in the garden directly outside. -
The US drops atom bombs on Japan.
The first nuclear bomb is dropped on Hiroshima and the second two days later on Nagasaki. -
The Soviets invade Manchuria.
