pg. 36. Zlata has to spend her nights in the cellar.Mostly her neighbors. She has to pack the things she needs and bring it to the Bobars cellar every time she has to go there.

pg.43. A shell (bomb) falls into the park, killing Nina. A shrapnel gotstuck in her brain. Zlata used to go to kindergarten with Nina.

pg.47. Zlata's uncle Braco had wounded his leg. It had to have surgery done on it . And it has all sorts of rods and casts and stuff in and around his wounded knee.

pg. 56. When the bomb fell in, Zlata was alone. Her parents were outside. After hearing a terrible boom and glass shattering, Zlata runs to the hallway, where her parents are.

pg.56. Two shells (bombs) exploded in the market, where Zlata's mom was near. Zlata and her dad were watching the news, where they were listing the dead. They were really worried about her mom. But then, Zlata looked out the window and saw her running across the bridge.

pg.65. Nedo is followed by a little kitten, and since he can't just leave it in the streets with the shooting going on, he brings it with him. So, Zlata takes the kitten in as a pet. They finally name her Cici.

pg.89. Zlata's friend, Maja asks Zlata if she keeps a diary and if it's about the war. Zlata answers yes to both, so these people want to publish her diary. Zlata sends a copy of some of her diary entries to the City Assembly,, where it will be published.

pg.79. A piece of sharpnel hits Eldin, a boy from Zlata's drama class. The saddest thing about it is that he was a refugee from Grbavica, which means that he was somebody who moved to another country for safety. But he ended up getting killed anyway.

pg.100. She is now twelve. She got small gifts and food, before-war types of food. The presents weren't really much. She was lucky there was no shooting so she could celbrate.

Pg.114. Zlata says that it's her workshop teacher's husband. And everyone else says that he was a good man. Many people are getting killed now.

pg.161. Cici, Zlata's cute, little kitten met a tomcat who she soon fell head over heels for. She got pregnant, but died for the same reason. So sad. It was all that tomcat's fault.

pg.167. A heart-shaped cake is made, a savory pie, sandwitches, and rolls. Zlata hasn't eaten like this since before the war. Zlata wishes that she could go to the actual wedding and not just their little celebration, but she says the war has taught her to steel herself.

pg.173. Nothing of hers is new. They're all Martina's and other friends. The notebooks have stuff written down from last year still in them.The war has ruined school too.

pg. 192. There were these people who wanted to help Zlata and her family. They moved Zlata and her family to Paris. After two years of not having to shower and less food, the shower and food was a big deal for Zlata.
