Birth and youth
Yayoi Kusama was born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan. She spent her childhood and youth in a misogynist era were women didnt had a a lot of rights and nothing to say, and less in the world of art. This didn't stoped Yayoi and she moved to New York when she was 28 years old looking for better opportunities. -
Childhood
By the age of 10, Yayoi got in touch with the world of colors and plastic, creating works where she mixed fantasy with reality. She says that her art is the way that she express her life and mental illness. -

In New York, the artist lived the pop art and creative explosion herself, wich influenced powerfully her works, creating installations full of lights, colors and curves. -
Infinity Mirrored Rooms
In the 60 Kusama started working with this serie formed with rooms full of mirrors, lights and forms that transmited different sensations that went from quiet and peaceful rooms to fearful ones. -
Accumulation Sculptures
Between the years 60 and 70 the artist left behind de painting and made three dimensional shapes that she called Accumulation Sculptures. -

Actuality
Nowadays, the artist worldwide known, resides in a psychiatric hotel by her own choice, where she goes out to work in her studio. In september of 2017 she opened the doors of her own museum, a building of five floors dedicated to her works. Yayoi today is a legend of contemporary art painting her dreams and nightmares also.
