    Germany invaded Poland, setting off war in Europe. The Soviet Union also invaded Poland and the Baltic nations.
    Germans were not all too supportive witht he decisions made by Hitler to invade Poland but they understood that what Poland was doing was not in the best intrest of Germany itself. A war began and Poland was defeated within weeks. Germans were supplied with an abundance of defence supplies and an amazing army.

  • Battle of France

    Battle of France
    Germany invaded France and captured Paris.
    Awoken and terrified by the Germans who had come to invade France, they were quick to want peace and not put up too big of a fight. Paris tried to convince the French to wait for the United States to aid them. The French knew Germany was powerful and they became eager. However, the U.S. came to their aid. The Germans invaded Paris.

  • Battle of Britain

    Germany bombed London, and the Battle of Britain began.
    The French were defeated and knew it, they quit the war which left Britain to fight alone. Britain was the first ever to stall and eventually win a war against the Germans. Their battle was fought mainly with air planes.

  • Lend-Lease Act

    Lend-Lease Act
    US gave Economic aid to the Allies.This act permitted Roosevelt to "sell, transfer title to, exchange, lease, lend, or otherwise dispose of, to any such government [whose defense the President deems vital to the defense of the United States] any defense article." Basically the U.S. would provide Allies with the supplies they needed to fight battles and wars, and in return they would pay a specific amount of money for the generous goods.

    Operation Barbarossa (1941)
    Hitler & his troops invaded the Soviet Union, the invasion covered space from North Cape to the Black Sea(two thousand miles). The Germans underestimated their opposer & believed they would capture the Soviet Union, enslave citizens & territory & exterminate all Jews. Underprepared for the weather and combat they would be facing, the Germans stood no chance against the Soviet Union, for it was a battle that they could never win.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on Pearl Harbor, which is a U.S. naval base in Hawaii. Japanese troops destroyed and damaged 20 American naval vessels, including eight huge battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than about 2,400 Americans died in the attack, civilians included.The very next day FDR declared war on Japan.

This declaration of war brings a once neutral America into a brutal war. “First he incites war, then falsifies the causes, then odiously wraps himself in a cloak of Christian hypocrisy and slowly but surely leads mankind to war,”

    Post attack on Pearl Harbor, many Filipinos & Americans were gathered by the Japanese & forced to walk nearly 65 miles.Their destination, San Fernando to prisoner-of-war camps. According to history.com, "The men were divided into groups of approximately 100, and what became known as the Bataan Death March typically took each group around five days to complete." Due to brutality of the Japanese, thousands of innocent men & women died.

    The United States was victorious over Japan in the Battle of Midway. This victory was the turning point of the war in the Pacific.
    The Battle of Midway was naval battle in the Pacific that occured just six months after Japans attack on Pearl Harbor. Americans had been made aware of the attack due to an American radio system which voiced the plans of Yamamoto. The allies prepared for this &the war came to an end with an American win.

    Germany invaded the Soviet Union.The Battle of Stalingrad had put a halt to the German advance in the Soviet Union & marked the turning point in favor of the Allies. This battle is said to be the bloodiest battle in all of history. The civilian and military casualties climb up to what no one could have predicted, which was about 2 million deaths. Germany was underprepared for the terrain & weather and people were dying left&right.

    In Poland, there were groups of the Jewish ghettos who planned a "armed revolt" against the concentration camps. The first revolt here inspired many other people in concentration camps placed in Germany and Europe to revolt as well. However, the Germans outnumbered these citizens in size and weapons. Many refugees died and even more were sent to concentration camps. These revolts did some damage, hundreds of Germans died too.

  • D-Day

    D-Day
    American & Allied troops land in Normandy, France, on D-Day to begin liberation of West Europe.
    156,000 American,British &Canadian forces landed on five beaches stretching 50 miles of the coast of France’s Normandy region. At 6:30 a.m. Allied troops stormed Normady's beaches. Less then a week later, the beaches were secured and supplies were being shipped to the troops. Germans were confused during the attacks and resulted in an Allied victory.

    The Germans tried to push back the Allied powers to northwestern Belgium. The Germans had a big "bulge" which pushed through the American defense. Because of a lack of proper supplies in harsh & unpredictable weather, the Allies had to retreat. Resulting in major land lost, and major gain for the Germans. This battle had a time span of about three weeks and unfortunately "suffered its second-largest surrender of troops of the war"

    The Americas wanted a base close to the Japanese coast, three different military groups landed on the island and fought 23,000 Japanese troopers. The Japanese fought from discrete places and surprised the former winning American troops. After nearly a month of fighting, the America won over the island.

    Hitler had put many people into concentration camps and was killing them in large groups using several tactics. The people in theses camps consisted of Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gypsies, homosexuals, repeat criminals, etc. Prisoners at the camps were forced to do hard labors which expanded the camps to make room for more people.     The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) in 1945, forcing Japan to surrender and ending World War II.
    There are many different claims that will be made about this moment in history, some say that the bomb caused the cold war, others argue that it marked the end of World War 2. America wanted to invade Japan, so they bombed Nagasaki killing 40,000 people, days later Japan surendered.
