Island Hopping
Island hopping was a military strategy used during WWII to expand. First used by the Japanese they went from island to island moving east taking over until Pearl harbor in 1942. After Pearl harbor the US said that's enough and went island hopping west pushing the Japanese back to Japan.

Pearl Harbor
The Japanese bombed the US Pacific fleet in pearl harbor on December 7, 1941 in an effort to completely wipe it out. 18 ships were sunk and around 2,403 American lives were lost. This event dragged the US into WWII.

Philippines
In 1941 Japanese attacked Philippines.The US led by MacArthur attacked but was forced to retreat to the Bataan Peninsula where we would later be defeated by Japan.After surrendering at Bataan some 80000prisoners were marched 60miles to a death camp where if you survived you would be for 2 years when MacArthur came back in1944 to liberate them.

Los Alamos
Los Alamos is a city in New mexico where the Atomic bomb was tested in 1942. This place was perfect because it was desolate and in the mountains of New Mexico. Here the bombs Little boy and fat man were created by Robert Oppenheimer.

Japanese Internment Camps
During WWII FDR established Executive Order 9066 which put Japanese Americans into internment camps for the duration of the war. After the Japanese bombed Pearl harbor everyone thought there might be Japanese spies in America and so Executive Order 9066 was implemented.

Battle of Midway
The battle of midway was a big battle between the US and Japan. This was the turning point of the war in the pacific. The US effectively stopped Japans advance west and turned them back east.

Stalingrad
This is considered by the Russians to be one of the one of the greatest battles of the war. This battle stopped the German advance into the soviet union and started turning the war in favor of the Allies.

D-Day
D-Day was when Allied troops stormed the beaches to regain control of German controlled France. This was one of the largest amphibious assaults in history. This is called the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.

The Meeting at Potsdam was the last WWII meeting of the "Big Three". They discussed and agreed on several things such as punishments, reparations, land borders. Pretty much all about post war Europe.

Bombing of Hiroshima
The US dropped an atomic bomb on two cities in Japan. One was Hiroshima. Over 100,000 people ended up dying. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were what ended the war in the Pacific.
