  • Germany Invades Poland

    Germany Invades Poland
    Germany Invaded Poland after making a pact with the Soviet Union. The Polish army was defeated within a few weeks. 2000 tanks and 1000 planes encircled Warsaw. After being bombarded constantly, Warsaw surrendered to Germany on Sept. 27.
  • Germany attacks Western Europe

    Germany attacks Western Europe
    Germans attack Belgium and Luxembourg. They then moved on to France, who were not ready. In a few weeks France fell to German forces. France fell on June 25th. The Nazis move onto Britiain.
  • Germany Begins to Bomb Britain

    Germany Begins to Bomb Britain
    Germany bombs Britain in an operation known as Operation Sea Lion. This consisted of Germany's Luftwaffe a Germany attacking. Germany bombed everything they could during the night time. By the end of the bombings, Britain lost 1000 planes while Germany lost 1700 due to Britains use of radar to see enemy planes.
  • Germany invades Russia

    Germany invades Russia
    Germany invades Russia after signing a treaty with them. The Nazis attack with their Axis allies and quickly take the Baltic States and attack Leningrad with Finland's help by September. On December 6th, 1941, Russia counterattacks and drives the Germans out of Russia.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacked the main Pacific, Naval base of the US. Japan sent 6 aircraft carriers, 360 airplanes, 22 other ships and subs. The Japanese attacked in 2 waves. The attack ended up killing 2402 people, wouding 1282, sinking 4 battleships and 2 destoryers, destroying 188 aircraft, and damageiong 11 ships and 155 airplanes.
  • US enters World War II

    US enters World War II
    The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US declares war on Japan. This day becomes known as the "Day that will live in infamy." On the 11th through the 13th, the Axis declare war on the US, finalizing the US becoming involved in World War II.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Normandy was an all out assult on Normandy. It was the attack that decided who would win the war. The night before D-Day, 11,000 planes bombed the beaches of Normandy. At 6:30 AM, the 1st troops landed on the beaches Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. Most of the fighting took place on Omaha beach. Because of D-Day, the Allies were able to open a 2 front war on Germany.
  • Germany Surrenders

    Germany Surrenders
    On this day, known as V-E Day, Germany officially surreneders to the Western Allies. Germany's surrender was signed at Rheims on May 7th and was later ratified in Berlin on May 8th. Two days later, the surrender to the Soviets.
  • The US bombs Hiroshima and Nagasai

    The US bombs Hiroshima and Nagasai
    For the first time ever in war, an Atomic bomb is launch by the US on the city of Hiroshima in an attempt to get Japan to surrender and to save US troops. The bomb, named Little Boy, killed between 80,000 and 120,000 people. Three days later, on August 9th, the US drops a second bomb on Nagasaki. This bomb, named Fat Man, killed between 35,000-75,000 Japanese civilians.
  • World War II Ends

    World War II Ends
    On V-J Day, Auguest 15, 1945, Emperor Hirohito of Japan decided to surrender to the Allied forces. On September 2, 1945, Japan officially surrendered to the Allies. By the end of the war, 21+ million soldiers and 28+ civilians died.
