After WWI the Sudetenland was put under the control of Czechoslovakia. The Nazi Party of Sudentenland had fought the Czechs since they became part of Czechslovakia. The People of the Sudentenland pleaded to the European countries to let the Sudentenland become a part of Germany. On December 11th, 1941 Japan Launched a surprise attack on the Naval base Pearl Harbor. 2400 Americans were killed and another 1000 were wounded. 22 ships were destroyed or damaged and over 300 planes were destroyed. Island hopping was a strategy used by the U.S. to dislodge the Japanese from islands with vital airfields, and islands with a series of quick bombings and amphibious landings designed to quickly dislodge the Japanese from all their islands. On February 19th, 1942 Executive order 9066 was ratified which forced all people of Japanese descent to be sent to isolated camps after Pearl Harbor. This happened because people thought all Japanese people could possibly be spies. Many Japanese Americans moved out of prohibited areas and were met with racist resistance. On June 3-6th, 1942 the battle of Midway took place. Japan at first was attacking but thanks to U.S. code breakers all of the Japanese's plans were compromised and the U.S. was ready. America launched multiple attacks with dive bombers and torpedo bombers but most were shot down. Some U.S. planes got through and in the end, 4 Japanese Carriers were damaged or sank. On August 7th, 1942 U.S. Forces recognized that Japan was attempting to construct an airfield that could seriously threaten the U.S. Military bases on other islands. So They launched an attack on the island to eliminate the threat. U.S. Forces surprised the 2000 Japanese Defenders and quickly took the airfield. The Battle of Stalingrad was a Major Turning Point of the European Front During WWII. The Battle was provoked by Germany when they broke their agreement with Russia to not fight each other. This led to Close Quarter battles and more where over 2 million were killed or wounded. Including tens of thousands of Russian Citizens. On June 6th, 1944 The Allies launched The Invasion of Europe. The first thing they had to do was get a foothold and they chose to get it on the beaches of Normandy. On October 20th, 1944 General MacArthur had the Leyte Attack. scheduled. This was the first set of Attacks on the Philippines. The Japanese Lured the Americans toward a larger force of Japanese. This plan though failed. On February 4th, 1945 the allied powers met and talked about what to do now that the war is over. it was decided that Berlin would be divided into 4 occupation zones. Soviet union kept Poland. On April 16th, 1945 Soviet Forces launched an attack on the German Capital of Berlin. 125000 died during this attack. On July 17th, 1945 the three big allies met at the Potsdam conference near Berlin. This Conference was a crucial moment in defining what the balance of power was post-WWII. On August 6th, 1945 America dropped the first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The blast killed 80000 immediately and thousands more afterward. The reason that America dropped the bomb on Japan was that an invasion would be too costly for America and Japan had a strict no surrender policy.
