    Battle of Midway
    The battle of midway was fought between allied forces and Japan. The battle of Midway was just months after pearl harbor and was another attack from the Japanese. In this attack the Japanese tried to take midway Atoll. The Japanese brought a large navy but was fended off by the allied forces long enough to secure an allied victory. This was one of the most important naval battles of the war and showed that we could stop Japan. It also showed us the Kamikazi pilots and how ruthless Japan was.

    Stalingrad
    The battle of Stalingrad was fought between the Soviet Union and Germany. In this battle the Soviets were fighting to protect the Soviet city of Stalingrad. The battle consisted of house to house fighting and no one was spared. The Germans were able to push back the Soviets and after 5 months the Germans won. This was important because although the Germans won they lost many lives and were never able to fully recover.
  • Battle of El Almein

    Battle of El Almein
    The battle of El Almein was fought between the allied forces and the Germans in Egypt. During this battle the Germans were trying to take over parts of Africa. They came to the costal city of El Almein where they were met by allied forces. The fighting occured in many little spirts and was won by the allies. This was a big event because it was one of the first wins for the allies and boosted the moral greatly.

    D-day was a battle fought between the allied forces and the Germans. On June 6, 1944 allied troops stormed heavily guarded beaches in France. The battle was brutal and took many lives but in the end the allies won. This was a major turning point in the war because it was the beginning of the end for Germany.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    The battle of the Bulge was a battle that took place in Belgium, France and Luxemborg and was fought between the allies and the Germans. While marching through a region with heavily forested hills called the Ardennes, Aliied troops were attacked by the Germans. Although the allies were outmatched good weather conditions enabled the allies to reinforce troops and call in air support which ultimately won the allies the battle. This was important because it allowed the allies to close on Germany.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima
    The battle of Iwo Jima was fought between the allied forces and the empire of Japan over the highly protected Japanese island of Iwo Jima. American forces wanted to take Iwo because it was placed between American territory and Japan. It is one of the most famous battles in history and took many lives. Despite the Japanese better position the superiority of weapons won the battle for the allied forces. This was a huge win and controlling Iwo Jima meant the allies could reach and bomb Japan.
  • Okinawa

    Okinawa
    The battle of Okinawa was fought between the allied forces and Japan. It was fough over the island of Okinawa but involved a lot of island hopping. It lasted over 80 days and was the largest amphibious battle of the war. In the end naval and air support helped the allies win. This was an important battle because it sealed an airbase for the US to use to bomb Japan.
