    Suprise attack on Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and within two hours, they sunk or damaged 19 ships. Up to that point Roosevelt had been having trouble convincing the isolationists to get involved in a war.     Japan targeted the Midway Island. The American forces hid beyond the horizon. The American planes attacked the Japanese fleet. This strategy was successful. The Battle of Midway stopped Japan from advancing in the Pacific. It also proved that the Americans could defeat Japan. It turned the tide of war for the Allies in the Pacific.
