  • Battle of Dieppe : “Operation Jubilee”

    • The Battle of Dieppe was the Allied force's first attempt to attack the Atlantic Wall
    • Aimed to capture Dieppe, a heavy fortified port city.
    • The plan was to attack the 16km long shoreline in 5 points.
    • Made up of 5,000 Canadians, approximately 1,000 British commandos and 50 American Army Ranger.
    • It was a disaster Canadians had 3350 casualties, only 2200 returned,\ 1950 taken as prisoners of war, 119 aircraft lost: the worst Allied aircraft lost in a single day.
