    Executive Order 9066
    Goal: to remove people of the Japanese heritage from the western United States. These Japanese/Americans were sent to internment camps which were similar in a way to those camp of Germany, except that they were not to be forced work or be killed or anything. Some died but it was because of sickness mainly. Two-thirds of the 110,000 peoples were Americans. The other third were illegal aliens.
  • The Bataan March

    The Bataan March
    Was a forced transfer by the Japanese Army of 60,000-80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war after the three month Battle of Bataan in the Phillipines during World War II. The 80 mile march was characterized by wide-ranging physical abuse and murder. The march was 5 days and nights. Those who fell out of line were either beaten or shot, and those who fell down were left for dead. The soldiers were sick, starving and yet they were still forced to march.
  • D-Day (Operation Overlord)

    D-Day (Operation Overlord)
    The Battle of Normany started with D-Day, also known as "Operation Overlord" in June of 1944, and it lasted until August of the same year. Operation Overlord (D-Day) is when some 156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops landed along a 50-mile area of France known as the Beaches of Normandy. The invasion is one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required a great deal of planning.
  • Auschwitz Liberation

    Auschwitz Liberation
    Auschwitz was the largest camp established by the Germans. This included a concentration camp, an extermination camp, and a forced labor camp. In mid January, just days before the march of about 60,000 people were forced to march thousands of people were killed in the camp. Any false step and you were to be shot. Nearly 15,000 people died on that march from Auschwitz.

    Raising the flag on Mount Suribachi
    American forces were set to capture the island of Iwo Jima to use as a base for now B-29 bomber raids. Japan had heavily guarded the island with troops hidden in caves and tunnels covered in conrete. Early in battle Marines capture the island's highest point- Mount Suribachi. When the battle was over 7,000 Americans were dead, many more wounded. But this also left all but 1,000 Japanese troops dead.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    An American B-29 bomber dropped the world's first atomic bomb onto the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city, instantly killing 80,000 people. Tens of thousands would later die of radiation exposure.
