  • Executive Order 9066

    Executive Order 9066
    Franklin Roosevelt signs the Executive Order 9066, that made all people leave any miltary areas. This is where many Japanese Americans lived, Nearly 110,000 Japanese Americans were taken to remote internment camps that were bulit by the U.S. military. For the next few years the Japanese Americans had to live in some pretty tough living conditions and were treated poorly by the U.S. guards.
  • The Bataan March

    The Bataan March
    After surrendering the main Phillipine island of Luzon, the Japanese forced 75,000 Fillipino and Amercian troops to march 85 miles in 6 days. Many of the Fillipino and American troops died along the way, or they fell behind and couldn't keep up and were shot anyway. They only got one meal of rice the whole trip they walked.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    160,000 Allied troops landed on the French coastline to attack Nazis Germany on the beachers of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "we will accept nothing less than full victory." More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircrafts were used to attck the Nazis on D-Day. By the end of the attacks, the U.S. had gained an advantage over Germany.
  • Auschwitz Liberation

    Auschwitz Liberation
    The Auschwitz concentration camp was the largest camp that was established by the Germans. When the Nazis realized the Soviets were coming, they forced nearly 60,000 prisoner to march west. Many of those prisoners died along the way. The Soviets entered Auschwitz and lieberated mroe than 7,000 prisoners. Most of those prisoners were very ill or dying.
  • Raising the flag on Mount Suribachi

    Raising the flag on Mount Suribachi
    During the battle of Iwo Jima, U.S. Marines raised the American flag on the top of Mount Suribachi, the highest point on the island. Then marine commanders decided to raise a second flag, that was larger, and this was the flag that was taken a picture of. This image is known around all the United States.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    At 8:16 a.m. and American B-29 Bomber, the Enola Gay, drops the worlds first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. About 80,000 people were killed from the dropping of the bomb, and another 35,000 people were injured. U.S. president Harry Truman decided to drop the bomb to end the war, after Japan refused to surrender.
