Hitler

Hilter began to defy the Treaty of Versailles that ended the war. He announced that Germany would build a new airforce and military in violation of the treaty.

Czechoslovakia

Mar 1, 1938

Germans made claims to the Sudetenland, which is an area of Czechoslovakia and they strongly resisted. Germany divided Czech into Slovakia and Czech.

Anschluss

Mar 23, 1938

Hilter threatened to invade German- speaking Austria unless Austrian Nazis were given important government posts. The chancelor gave in, but tried to put the unification with Germany into a democratic vote. Hitler feared this and sent troops into Austria in March and announced the Anshluss, unification of Austria and Germany.

Munich Conference

Sep 28, 1938

Representative from Britain, France, Italy, and Germany agreed to meet in Munich to decide the fate of Czechs. At the Munich France and Britian decided to meet the demands of Germany which is a policy known as the appeasement.

Danzig

Jan 23, 1939

Hitler demanded that the city of Danzig be returned to German control. Its 90 percent Germna but its was part of Poland sinse WWI. France and Britain thought they were going to war no matter what so they said they would help Poland. So Poland refused Germanys demand.

Nazi- Soviet Pact

Aug 23, 1939

Nonagression pact signed by Germany and the USSR. Part of the pact was that they would split Poland.

Germany invaded Poland and two days later France and Britain declared wat on Germany. Start of WWII!!
