  • The Battle of Britain

    The Battle of Britain took place shortly after the fall of France from July 10 - October 31, 1940. This battle was a massive air campaign launched by the Germans to try and break Britain's will to continue the fight. After months of intense bombing and air combat, the Germans found the RAF too resilient to break and ended the campaign and gave up any hopen of invading Britain.
  • The Bombing of Pearl Harbor

    "YESTERDAY, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." The Bombing of Pearl Harbor was an attempt by the Japanese Empire to knock out the US Navy and secure naval supremacy in the Pacific. The Bombing resulted in the loss of 2,471 lives and the damaging or destruction of 19 ships including 8 battleships. This attack forced America into the war and would never be forgotten.
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway took place June 3-6, 1942, this battle is considered the turning point in the Pacific where the US would inflict a devastating defeat on the Japanese. The Imperial Japanese Navy would not be capable of overcoming the loss of four carriers and over 100 trained pilots, and with the loss at Midway, the Japanese offensive in the Pacific was overturned and the United States began offensive action in the Pacific.
  • The Battle of Stalingrad

    The Battle of Stalingrad took place from August 23rd, 1942, to February 2, 1943. Stalingrad was one of the most decisive battles on the Eastern Front in the Second World War. The Soviet Union inflicted a catastrophic defeat on the German Army in and around this strategically important city on the Volga River. This battle cost the estimated lives of over 1.2 million people, possibly up to 2.2 million, making it the bloodiest battle in human history.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch was a compromise operation between the Americans and the British, designed to help with the British Objective of securing Northern Africa while also providing limited combat experience to American troops who, up until then, were completely green. The Operation lasted from November 8th to the 16th, the plan was to land in Morroco and Northern Algeria and then push east. This would put tremendous pressure on Axis forces in North Africa and would lead to a forced retreat to Italy.
  • Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Program

    The Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, often referred to as the Monuments Men was an international group established in 1943 that worked under the Civil Affairs and Military Government Sections to help protect cultural property during and after World War II.
  • The Battle of Kursk

    The Battle of Kursk was a German offensive aimed at cutting off Soviet forces around the city of Kursk from July 5th to August 23rd, 1943. This was an attempt by the Germans to recreate the success they had early on during Operation Barbarossa when they encircled entire Soviet armies. However, the Soviets were expecting this and laid a trap for the advancing German armor. During the intense battle over 6,000 tanks, 2 million personnel, and 4,000 aircraft would clash leading to a Soviet Victory.
  • Operation Overlord(D-Day)

    Operation Overlord was the largest amphibious operation in human history with around 156,000 troops taking part. These troops would land at the beaches of Normandy, France, and push inland to start liberating the occupied lands of France and later the Benelux region. D-day was the final nail in the coffin of the German Reich with the Soviets in the east and the combined allied forces in the west, the Germans were living on borrowed time. Not even a year after the landing the Germans surrendered.
  • The Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II. The Germans launched the offensive with the hope of breaking through Allied lines and seizing the port of Antwerp, encircling Allied forces in the benelux. The battle lasted from December 16th, 1944 to January 28th, 1945, with the result being a decisive Allied victory after a hard-fought battle in the snow and forests of the Ardennes.
  • The Battle of Iwo Jima

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle that took place from February 19th to March 26th, 1945. Iwo Jima while nothing special naturally was crucial for further air campaigns against the mainland of Japan due to its close enough proximity while still being out of range of Japanese reach. The small island saw fierce combat as US Marines and IJA forces clashed. 70,000 marines and infantrymen and 20,000 IJA soldiers saw combat with 7,000 dead and another 20,000 wounded for US forces only 200 Japs lived
