  • Doolittles raid

    Doolittles raid
    Led by James H. Doolittle, a volunterred mission to attack the tokyo area. The american fighter pilots were spotted by enemy picket boats forceing them to take off earlier than planned. 16 plans with a 5 man crew each moderately damaged the intended military targets, but no planes reached the chinese air fields. the majority of men did not survive.
  • Coral Sea

    Coral Sea
    The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought in the waters southwest of the Solomon Islands and eastward from New Guinea. Japan tried taking north eastern Australia. The U.S navy was tipped off by there intelligence countered the attack with various types of ships.
  • Midway

    Japans fleet commander Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto set out to attack the midway base. He planned to run over the bases defence then invade, quickly takeing control. The U.S was again tipped off by intelligence about the attack. Letting Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the U.S. Pacific Fleet commander to succesfully set up an ambush

    The air-sea-land fight for the island Guadalcanal lasted six months. Rigt away U.S marines siezed the air field on the island. On the ground the allies destroyed but in the sea there was two major battles between aircraft carriers which was mor costly for the U.S. In the end japanese troops evacuated leaving the island to the allies

    Saipan
    The invasion force was made up of 535 ships carrying more than 127,000 troops. The Navy bombarded both coasts in order to confuse the Japanese as to the true site of the landings which took place on june 15, 1944. It was a brutal battle with as many as 786 officers and 13,438 enlisted men killed, wounded or missing in action.

    Lieutenant-General Kuribayashi was in charge of 22,000 soldiers to defend the island which held 2 airfields which were used to attack oncoming bomber planes going to japan. From Americas failed bombing attempt, the japanese used the destroyed land for hiding spots to snipe from.Eventually amercan troops trapped the enemy soldiers and forced them to surrender.
  • Okinawa

    Okinawa
    Lieutenant- General Ushijima was ordered to defend the island at all costs. He set up strong forts so the U.S would have to do a frontal assault if they wanted to take the fortifications. Then japan used kamikazes against the fleet off shore destroying 169 ships. Then 60,000 american troops landed on the island and defeated the japanese. Ushijima committed suicide days before the loss
