  • John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry

    Started October 16, 1859 and ended October 18, 1859. Was an effort to start a slave revolt by taking over the US arsenal in Harper's Ferry. They were stopped by a company of Marines.
  • Tunnels

    The tunnels system was starting to be used as underground bunkers and passageways built by the Japanese.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Known as the September Campaign. Once the Germany's plowed their way through Poland they killed any of the remaining resistance.
  • End of The Great Depression

    After the worst economic downturn, Roosevelt decided to support Britain and France against Germany, which made manufacturing skyrocket.
  • Auschwitz

    April 1940 - January 27, 1945. The worst and most known concentration camps from the Holocaust.
  • Rationing

    Started when advertisements starting going around about how women can help the military. It started as saving their bacon greasy.
  • Aircraft Carriers

    The US manufactured in the year 1941 and stopped being made in 1945
  • Lend Lease Act

    An act to defeat Germany, Italy, and Japan by blocking off their imports.
  • War Bonds

    These were debt securities used to finance the military. Another use was to take money out of the economy and stop the risk of inflation.
  • Hitler's Final Solution

    The Nazi's plan to exterminate the Jewish race. The victims were sent on death trains to the concentration camps where there was a lot of death and illness.
  • Pearl Harbor

    The final step for America going into the war. A very bloody day that caught everyone off guard.
  • Internment Camps

    Japanese interment weren't as bad as concentration camps but they weren't living any better.
  • Doolittle's Raid

    Also known as the Tokyo Raid. An air raid issued by the US on Japan that didn't damage Japan but boosted the moral of America.
  • Island Hopping

    Started 1942 - 1945. Started with Guadalcanal and ended when we took japan.
  • Battle of the Coral Sea

    A major naval battle between the Imperial Japanese and the US and Australian air force and navy.
  • Battle of Midway

    A turning point in the Pacific war. The Japanese were halted and they suffered major drawbacks.
  • Guadalcanal

    Took 6 months too take the island. A lot of men died on both sides and it was the first island to start the island hopping technique.
  • Rosie the Riveter

    A symbol still used today to empower women.
  • US invades Italy

    Operation Avalanche, an amphibious attack on Italy.
  • Operation Overlord

    The Normandy landing. The largest seaborne invasion in history.
  • Philippines

    Us fights Japan in the Philippines, trying to get their territory back.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    The last major attack from the German side of WW2 on the Western Front.
  • Iwo Jima

    Ended march 16th 1945. The goal was to capture the entire Japanese island. This battle was some of the fiercest and bloodiest fight seen in all of WW2
  • Okinawa

    Occurred after the battle of Iwo Jima. Japan had about 130,000 soldiers and US had about 180,000 soldiers. We knew if Okinawa fell then so would Japan.
  • Bataan Death March

    The Imperial Japanese Army forced American and Filipoino POW. The prisoners were forced to walk 70 miles. The conditions were horrible and you were killed for even stopping.
  • Dropping of Little boy

    Code name for the first atomic bomb dropped on a city in Japan. Flown and dropped by the pilot who flew Enola Gay.
  • Enola Gay

    A Boeing B-29 Super fortress bomber, named after the pilots mother. The first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb.
  • Dropping of Fat man

    The second plutonium bomb dropped on Nagasaki.The efficiency rate of this bomb was 10x that of little man
  • Unconditional Surrender

    A type of surrender that where no guarantees are given to the surrendering party.
  • Manhattan Project

    A research and development during WW2, which produced America's first nuclear weapons.The headquarters of this project was in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This project was started in response of the fear that German scientists were working on nuclear energy.
