Born in a two room log cabin in Pall Mall, Tennessee. He was the third oldest of eleven children.

York didn't recieve a very good education, but during his childhood he became a adept woodsman and an excellent shot. This was due to having to aid his father hunt for food.

He was a drunkard and trouble maker until his friend, Everret Delk, died in a bar fight. He hen joined a church and changed his ways.

York did not want to figtht as he believed it was against his religion, but he recieved a draft registration notice. He was forced to join the war even though he did not want to.

York went out by himself and single handidly took out 35 German machine guns, killed 25 Germans, and captured 132.

Due to his achievments at war York was promoted to Sergeant, and the Distinguished Service Cross. He presented the Medal of Honor an April 18, 1919, as well as several other awards.

York married Gracie Willaims, whom he met at church. They would go on to have seven children together.

York allowed a movie to be made about his life: Sergeant York, which went on to become a box-office hit.

York suffered a stroke, which would leave him incapitated for the remaining ten years of his life.

York died and was buried with full military honors at Pall Mall cemetary.
