The German invasion of Poland was the first major military action by Hitler. Poland fell very easily to the combined Soviet/German attack.

These invasions led to the eventual attack of France. The fast movements that the Germans used to attack these countries became known as Blitzkrieg which means "lightening war."

The German forces invade France, breaking through the Maginot Line. The Maginot Line was built after World War One and was supposed to be impossible to break through. However, the quick attack by the tanks and infantry of Germany was able to break through. Germany now had a foothold in one of the major powers of the allies.

With the fall of Paris to German forces, Germany could now focus all its fire power towards Great Britain. France was crushed from this devastating blow. This eventually led to D-Day- an effort to retake France.

One of the greatest days of World War Two for the allied forces. By taking control of the beaches of France, The allies were able to place a foothold from the beaches in order to take control of the rest of France and eventually Germany. -
This is a very triumphant event for the United State. The flag being raised is a symbol of hope and triumph on the island of Iwo Jima. This island was very crucial because of its strategic location in the Pacific. It was vital to the USAF because it allowed damaged bombers to land and allowed a place for escort fighter jets to station.

This was the first ever atomic bomb to be used in war. The destruction was great. Another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki three days later. Shortly afterwards the Japanese emperor surrendered.

General Douglas MacArthur accpets the official surrendering of Japan aboard the USS Missouri. This was the end of the Second World War. Many lives lost, but a victory for the allies.
