The invasion of the beaches of Normandy. "...some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region." It was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Two bombings that the US used to try to end World War II quickly, and make the Japanese surrender. They didn't after the first bomb, so then the US used a second atomic bomb. (These were both on August 6 and August 9)
