    At this point in the war the fight in Europe was over, but the Americans were still fighting the Japanese using a strategy known as Island Hopping, in which the U.S. took crucial islands from the Japanese but left other non important islands, they did this until they got within in bombing range of mainland Japan. Once there on the 6th of August 1945 the U.S. unleashed a new weapon on the Japanese which would force them to surrender ending the war for good.
