The battle was a contest between the western allies and the axis power for the control of Atlantic sea routes. The Axis powers we hoping to frustrate the allies, but failed. -
The Dunkirk evacuation, also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France. It started on May 27th, 1940, and ended June 4th, 1940. It was important because if those Britain soldiers have had been captured, Britain would have lost their only trained troops. The success of this evacuation was a great boost to civilian morale, which helped Britain to fight in the summer of 1940. -

The Bataan Death March took place from April 9 to April 17, 1942. The March was a forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 60,000-80,000 American and Filipino prisoners. They were forced to march 65 miles to prison camps. The march was in intense heat and suffered harsh treatment by the Japanese guards. Thousands of casualties resulted in this march. -
The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater that took place from June 4 to June 7, 1942. The United States and Japan went head to head 6 months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Unites States' victory erased Japan's hopes of neutralizing the U.S. as a naval powerhouse. -

This battle took place from August 23, 1942, to February 2, 1942. It was known as a close-quarters fight where nearly 2 million people were killed or injured. It was also Hitler's last major offensive in World War II. His plan was to split up the allied troops in their push towards Germany. Germany failed to do this and it paved the way to victory for the allies. -

The Battle of Iwo Jima took place from February 19, 1945, to March 26, 1945. It contained the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy in a land attack on the island of Iwo Jima. The U.S. was able to take advantage of 3 Japanese airfields to serve as staging facilities for a potential invasion. -

This was the last major battle of World War II. Okinawa fell on June 22, 1945, after the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet and more than 180,000 U.S. Army and Marine Corp made a final push towards Japan. The fall of Okinawa meant the fall of Japan. Without Okinawa, Japan would be unable to launch a successful invasion. -
