    Second Sino-Japanese War
    When Japan attempted to expand their territory and influence over other countries in 1931, China resisted. This caused a war between Japan and Chins with up to twenty million casualties, but it was not declared until December 9, 1941. China, with help of western allies, became more powerful. The US dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and the Soviet Union began to attack Japan also. This is significant because when Japan surrendered, this marked the end of World War II.
  • Anschluss

    Anschluss
    Anschluss was an attempt by Germany and Adolf Hitler to have Austrian powers combine with Germany Nazis. After the chancellor repeatedly told Hitler no, Germany invaded on March 12, 1938. This invasion gave him a 99.7% approval. This was important because Germany took over and combined with Austria, eventually showing their ruthless policies towards political powers and citizens.

    Women in the War
    About three hundred fifty thousand women served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Women helped World War II from both home and abroad. Women became pilots, filled factories, conductors, nurses and more.
  • Battle of Moscow

    Battle of Moscow
    The Battle of Moscow was a German attack on the Soviet Union. Operation Barbarossa did not actually occur until a month later, in June, due to Hitler's troops not being ready. However, the Soviet Union fought back as Hitler adjusted his war strategy. This was extremely important to the Soviet Union because they were able to prevent Germany from gaining their capital.

    Tanks & Airplanes
    Tanks, which helped in WW1, provided protection of troops, and they were ideal for all terrains. Most countries believed tanks were key in military guidance. Airplanes increased from 2,500 t0 about 300,000 by the end of the War. Some wars, including Pearl Harbor, were fought mainly in the air, proving how effective aircraft was in WWII.

    After Japan attacked America during Pearl Harbor, America fought back. This attack majorly affected Japan's Navy. The US found Japanese codes for another attack, but American aircrafts stopped the attacks. This allowed America to gain an offensive position in the War.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Battle of Stalingrad, between Nazi Germany and Russian forces, was a military campaign. The battle is known as one of the longest, lasting almost a year. Nearly two million people were killed during the fighting. When Hitler began to launch an attack on Stalingrad, they fought through harsh winters and were forced to surrender. This fight was very important because it gave the Allies the upper hand in World War II.

    The Battle of El Alamein occurred when the British launched an attack with soldiers and tanks at El Alamein. Germany attempted to return to battle and fight against the British Empire. However, Britain's advantages were too overwhelming for Germany. This was important because it was the culmination of World War II.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge was an attack from Germany to move the Allied forced from France to Belgium. Germany provided 250,000 soldiers compared to America's 80,000. The Germans overpowered the Americans, forcing them to retreat. Germany sent soldiers who infiltrated American lines, gaining plans and information. This was important because it was the last major Nazi offense in World War II.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The Battle of Iwo Jima was between the U.S. Marines and the Imperial Army of Japan. Iwo Jima was an island located off of Japan, which was an area to serve as a potential invasion to the mainland. When American forces attacked, the battle lasted for five weeks, as one of the bloodiest battles of WWII. Eventually, the US had control of Iwo Jima, and had land to attack Japan from. This was important because Japan would have used Iwo Jima to attack America with Japanese fighter planes.
