The battle of Iwo Jima was a major battle over an island in the pacific, near Japan, and It was more or less, the last stand for the Japanese forces, until the Japanese mainland, and it was a tough, but promising victory for the United States.

The Battle of Okinawa was faught on several islands in the pacific northwest. This was the bloodiest battle of the Pacific. Again, the USA dominates over Japan, but only after having lost thousands of soldiers. Around 75,000 Japanese military and civilians died or commited suicide.
