    On 9/27 americans were notified that germany,italy, and japan had signed a mutual defense treaty. the tripartite pact. they were known as the axis powers. their goal was keeping the USA out of the war. in the treaty they agreed to defend one another in case of attack.

    patriotic americans also invested their time,volunteering for organization such as the red cross & victory corps. they made bandages, knitted socks & collected books to be sent to the troops abroad. celebrities also volunteered to promote the sale of war bonds and other wartimes endeavor. the red cross provided food,hygiene products & even entertainment to help pass time for america pow's in germany & japan.

    -allies joined forces to stop hitlers aggression (axes power)
    -At the begining it was only france,poland, and the UK, but later when US would join establishing the united nations. Jan 1,1942 the big 3 were known to be the main leaders, stalin (soviet union) Churchill (UK) FDR(USA)

    -provided for military aid to any country whos defense was vital to the security of the US
    -The act authorized the president to transfer arms or any other defense material for which congress approriated money.
    -by allowing the president to transfer war material to a beleagured britian-and without payment the neutrality act, the act enabled the british to keep fighting until the events led americans into conflict

    Members of the womans army corps were the first women other than nurses to serve within the US army, because they were able to supply the additional resources so desperately needed in the military and industrial sectors.

    Known as debt securities for the purpose of financing military operations during war time, the bonds yield a mere 2.9 percent return after a 10y maturity living in the us with a median income during ww2 meant earning about 2,000 a year. despite the wars hardships, 134m americans were asked to purchase war bonds to help fund the war. stamps also could be purchased,starting at 10 cents to save toward the bond.

    were the 1st group of african americans fighter pilots in the U.S Army corps WW2. the army had resist using black men as pilot . they created a segregate unit for them.

    5 star general, commanded the southwest pacific and invaded the island of leyte in october 1944 to avenge americas defeat in the philippines. he applied his military actions with island hopping to help relieve POWs from the bataon death march
