    On September 1st, 1939 Hitler's invasion of Poland started World War II.
    In the book The boy in the striped pajamas, Bruno had told Shmuel that the invasion of Poland by Hitler made Germany the greatest country of them all.

    The lifespan of World War II

    Even though the war ended in Germany in 1944, it continued on in other parts of the war such as Japan. On August 15th, 1945 the Japanese surrendered against the Americans.
    The big theme that brings our books and events together is that all our characters in the book manages a decent life and learns to live on throughout the events they have been through. Its important to not be stuck in the past experiences, but to move on and learn from them. Even though the sad memories remained with them.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, making the Americans join the war.
    In the book A boy no more, Adams fathers ship got sank because of the bombs the Japanese had dropped on Pearl Harbor, and died.

    Pasific War
    On January 2nd, 1942 the Pasific War started and then ended on December 31st. It was when the Americans had declared war on Japan. The Americans and the Japanese were battling each other in the Pasific during World War II.
    In the book A boy no more, the war began 2 months after Pearl Harbor and Adam experienced it all.

    On Febuary 19th, 1942 Japanese consentration camps were allowed in the United States.
    In the book A boy no more, Adam's best friend, Davie and his family, were all sent to Manzanar camp untill the war ended. Manzanar was a consentration camp for japanese.
  • End of War in Germany

    End of War in Germany
    On June 6th, 1944 the Americains ended the war of World War II in Germany. In other places the war continued.
    In the book The boy in the striped pajamas, Bruno's father talks about the "tragedy" that the war ended with Fury(Adolf Hitler)
    In the book The Devil's Arithmetic, Hanna goes to this village at the end of the war and manages to live a happy life.
  • Liberation of concentration camps

    Liberation of concentration camps
    Around January 1945, all major concentration camps were liberated by allied forces. The remaining jews were saved, but many were dead by that time.
    In the book The boy in the striped pajamas, Shmuel and Bruno died right before the concentration camps were liberated.
    In the book The Devil's Arithmetic, Villagers are round up for camps before the liberation, because the Germans were trying to hid the evidence of what they have done.

    The bombing of Hiroshima
    On August 6th, 1945 the Americans bombed Hiroshimas with an atomic bomb. Hiroshima was the first place that was ever bombed by an atomic bomb. Many citizens died, and many were wounded.
    In the book Hiroshima, Mr. Tanimoto was one of many survivers of the bomb. He tried to help others that were buried under houses.

    ON August 9th, 1945 Nagasaki was bombed by an atomic bomb by the Americans. This devastated many Japanese people and many wondered what caused such an explosion.
    In the book Hiroshima, when people found out Nagasaki was bombed they were in total shock. And many wondered what will happen next.
