    Following the rise of the Fascist Party, Mussolini would become a dictator in Italy. This event was significant to the world because it would lead to Benito allying himself with Hitler in order to help prop up his leadership in World War 2.

    On this day, Adolf Hitler was appointed as the chancellor of Germany by President Paul Von Hindenburg. Adolf Hitler's emergance as the chancellor would mark the crucial turning point for the country of Germany and ultimatly the rest of the world.

    On this day in history, Hitler violates the Treaty of Versallies and the Locarno Pact by sending German military forces into the Rhineland. This illegal act by Hitler would provide an affect to the world. The European Powers, especially France and Britain was thrown into confusion as to what they should do about Hitler's actions.

    In an effort to mimic Hitler's conquest of Prague, Benito Mussolini's troops would invade and occupy Albania. Although the invasion of Albania was intended as but a prelude to greater conquests in the Balkans, it proved to be a costly enterprise for II Duce. Because Albania was already dependent on Italy's economy, it would have little to offer the invadors. Also, future exploits in neighboring nations, in Greece in particular, would be desastrous for the Italians.

    The St. Louis ship was carrying 930 Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. The refugeess was refused entry into the United States and the ship was soon forced to return to Europe. While en route to Antwerp, several European countries were cajoled into taking the refugees. Those that went to Beliguim, France, and the Netherlands were soon trapped as Hitler's armies invaded Westeran Europe and perished as victims of the Nazi Final Solution.

The long term significance of this battle was Britian's preservation as a base for offensive operations against Germany. Germany would be affectted by this in the war.

    Proposed in the late 1940s and passed in March 1941, the Lend-Lease Act was the prinicipal means for providing US military aid to foreign nations during World War 2. As the US military mobilized for war, Lend-Lease materials in the form of vehicles, aircraft, and weapons was shipped to other allied nations who was actively fighting the Axis Powers. This is the effect it had on the world.

    On this day in history, Germany invades the Soviot Union in the lagest German military operation of World War 2. The effect that the invasion had on the world would be seen in Great Britain. Just as the strain on Great Britian was becoming severe, Hitler would help to provide relief to Great Britain by turning eastward and invading the Soviot Union.

    The Attack On Pearl Harbor was an attack initiated by the Japanese against the Americans. The attack had occured in Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. More than 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died in the attack and another 1000 were wounded. The Japanese was the victor in this surprise attack. The attack was significant because it would draw the United States irrevocable into World War 2.

    Following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States would enter World War 2. The effect of this event was that the United States would be united against the Axis powers and it would help to turm the tide of World War 2 in favor of the Allies.

Japan suffered 2.500 casualties while the United States suffered 307 casualties. This battle was won by the United States. This battle was significant because it reversed the tide against the previously invicible Japanese navy.

    The Battle of Stalingrad was a successful Soviot defense of the city of Stalingrad in the U.S.S.R during World War 2. The battle was between the Soviot Union and Germany with the Soviot Union being the victor of the battle. This battle was one of the bloodiest in history, with combined military and civilian casulties of nearly 2 million. The battle was significant because it stopped the German advance into the Soviot Union and it marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies.

    The Battle of Guadalcanal was fought between the Aliied forces and Japan. This battle was located on and around Guadalcanal. In the battle, the Japanese would lose a total of 24,000 men while the Americans would lose 1,600 men. Also, several thousand men would die from malaria and other tropical diseases that was present in the area. Along with the navel Battle of Midway, the fighting on Guadalcanal would mark a turing point that would be in favor of the Allies in the Pacific War.

    The Tehran Conference was a meeting held between Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin in Tehran, Iran. One important effect that this conferance had on the world could be seen through one of there disccussion topics, which was the possible creation of an international organization after the war to help maintain peace in the world. I think this discussion topic helps to forshadow the Allies creating the United Nations.

The Battle of the Bulge was the costliest action ever fought by the US army, which suffered over 100,000 casualties. The Germans lost 80 to 100 thousand men. The battle was won by the alies. The battle was significant because it was Hitler's plan to destabilize the allies and take control of the port of Antwerp and his plan would backfire in the end.

    The Yalta Conferance was the second wartime meeting between Winston Chruchill, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. This event had an effect on the world because the three leaders agreed to demand Germany's unconditional surrender and they began the plans for a post-war world. Stalin would agree to permit free elections in Easteran Europe and enter the Asian war against Japan, for which he promised the return of lands lost to Japan in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05.

Japan lost 107,000 men. America was the victor in this battle. This battle was significant because following the victory, the United States would obtain Okinawa, which was an area of strategic importance for the country.

Hitlers death was significant because it wold come to impact ont he conduct of operations on the Easteran Front.

The Nuremburg Trials effected the world because they was crucial in establishing the precedent that individual leaders and administrators, not only states, could be held accountable by the international community for actions that violated widely accepted, even universal, standards of conduct.
