    Victory in Europe Day consisted of German troops throughout Europe finally laying down their weapons. This marked the end of the war and a victory for the Allied Powers.

    Dropping Atomic Bombs

    American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Hiroshima, Japan. The explosion wiped out 90% of the city. In Nagasaki a second bomb was dropped killing around 40,000 people. Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's surrender because of the bombs in a radio address.

    Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies which resulted in ending World War II.
