    German Blitzkrieg

    A German term for “lightning war,” blitzkrieg is a military tactic designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower.
  • Japanese invasion of China/ Sino-Japanese War

    Japan troops attack Chinese forces near Beijing. Taking much coastal cities of China.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Japanese army conducts massacre and rape in Nanking. China proved to have a strong resistance as the Japanese expected an easy victory. The Nanking Soilders were more cowardly despite thier advantage in numbers and ammunition and surrendered.
  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    Germany invaded Poland. The Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. Led to France and Britain declaring war on Germany.
  • Paris Falls

    Germany invade Paris and French put up little resistance. Winston Churchill urges the French to not surrender but does it anyway. U.S. Offered to send materials but we're afraid to door publicly because they do not want to enter the war.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Adolf Hitler launched his armies eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japanese air fighters invade U.S Honolulu, Hawaii. Specifically air units and carriers. Know as one of the worst travesties in U.S. History, and the reason for entering the war.
  • Wannsee Confrence

    Nazi Party and German government officials gathered at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to discuss and coordinate the implementation of what they called the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question."
  • Operation Gomorrah

    British bombers raid Hamburg, Germany, by night in Operation Gomorrah, while Americans bomb it by day in its own “Blitz Week.”
  • Normandy Invasion ( D-Day )

    Landing of U.S., British, and Canadian forces on five separate beachheads in Normandy, France. By the end of August 1944 all of northern France was liberated, and the invading forces reorganized for the drive into Germany, where they would eventually meet with Soviet forces advancing from the east to bring an end to the Nazi Reich.
  • Operation ThunderClap

    The proposal was to bomb the eastern-most cities of Germany to disrupt the transport infrastructure behind what was becoming the Eastern front.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The American amphibious invasion of Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima was defended by roughly 23,000 Japanese army. Allie marines wiped out the defending forces after a month of fighting. The battle earned a place in American lore.
  • Battle of iOkinawa

    Last and biggest of the Pacific island battles of World War II. At stake were air bases vital to the projected invasion of Japan. By the end of the 82-day campaign, Japan had lost. The net result made Okinawa a mass bloodletting both on land and at sea.
  • VE Day

    In Prague, Germans surrendered to their Soviet antagonists, after the latter had lost more than 8,000 soldiers, and the Germans considerably more. Great Britain and the United States celebrate Victory in Europe Day. Russia celebrate on the 9th.
  • Battle of Bulge

    Germany attempted to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe. Caught of gaurd, American units fought desperate battle. Allies line took on the appearance of a large bulge, giving rise to the battle’s name.
  • Dropping the Bimbs

    U.S. Sttack on Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Used to end the war with Japan. Estimated that if not used 1 mil. U.S. Soilders would die in the invasion. 2 bombs were used one called little boy and the other called Fayman.
  • VJ day

    The day celebrated for the surrender of Japan after the 2 bombings. Also on September 2 where Japan formally surrendered.
