    Ottoman Empire

    Ottoman Empire
    It was the mightiest and longest lasting dynasty. This dynasty ruled large areas of the Middle East, Eastern Europe and North Africa for more than 600 years. Osman I founded the Ottoman Empire in 1299. In the years 1520 to 1566, the empire reached its peak and held great power and wealth. By the beginning of WWI the empire was already falling apart and were defeated by the central powers in 1918 after ruling for 600 years. The territories were divided between Britain, France, Greece and Russia.
  • 1347

    Black Death

    Black Death
    It was commonly known as the Great Plague and resulted in 75 to 200 million deaths in Europe and Eurasia until 1351. The plague arrived in Europe when 12 ships from the Black Sea docked at the Sicilian port of Messina. People were horrified to see that most sailors on the ship were dead and those still alive were vert sick and covered in boils. The ships were ordered out of the harbor but it was already too late. This all resulted in most people too scared to go outside, so they stayed indoors.

    Chinese Imperialism
    It was a time of expansion in China. It was a central feature of East Asia. During this time, there was a high demand for a lot of resources found in China and their tea and all of that. An effect of all of this was the unequal treaties on the Chinese and resulted in the Second Opium War.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    Known as the First Industrial Revolution. It was the beginning to new manufacturing processes in the United States and Europe. This time made these two countries industrial and urban. One of the main new inventions was the steam engine and played very important roles during this time.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    This period ended with the ending of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Revolution played a part in shaping modern nations. During this time, King Louis XVI had left France due to bankruptcy during the involvement in the American Revolution.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
    World War 1 began as a result of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand was blamed on the Serbian government.
  • The Red Scare

    The Red Scare
    During this time, Russian spies were spying on us to get information and all. This was between the United States and the Soviet Union. A bunch of people lost their jobs especially those in the film industry due to the fear of being spied on them. The communists were called the reds because of the flag.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    This was known as the Second World War. It was a global war which lasted until 1945. It mainly began because of Hitler and his Nazi party.
  • Nuremberg Trials

    Nuremberg Trials
    These trials were an effort of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice. There was a series of 13 trials held in Nuremberg, Germany until 1949. They were a milestone for our international court systems.
  • Cold War

    Cold War
    The United States and the Soviet Union fought together as allies against the Axis powers. However, the two nations had a very tense relationship between them. They used a strategy called containment.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    It was south and north Vietnam against each other. It was intensified because of the Cold War going on as well. More than 3 million people were killed during this war.
  • Tank Man

    Tank Man
    Tank man was an anonymous Chinese man that stood in front of tanks in Tiananmen Square. He was never identified, but people who saw him were proud because of how brave he was standing up for his city. Soon after he was dragged out of there and never seen again.
