The founding of the National Labor Union was the first attempt to organize all workers for better conditions and pay. Instead of collective bargaining they tried to use legislative action like calling congress to make the work day 8 hours. This group was opposed to strikes unlike most labor unions. -

This strike ended in the railroad workers losing but it's occurrence led to the Railway Labor Act being passed. This act was an attempt to prevent strikes like this from happening again. He was the first director of the Department of Social Security. He was a major labor union Activist. He helped develop Medicare. -
A. Philip Randolph
A. Philip Randolph helped organize many protests to help African Americans gain workers rights. He acted as a link between the Civil Rights and Labor Rights movements. He made the first major Black labor union in America. -
Larry Itliong
Larry Itliong was one of the main figures in the West Coast labor movement. He helped start the Delano Grape Strike. He helped organize the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee. -
Delano Grape Strike
The Delano Grape Strike was a massive strike that helped gain workers rights for farmers. It started with Japanese work crews wanting more pay but spread across multiple cultures and even across the world. It lead to mass boycotts of stores selling table grapes. -
Cesar Chavez
Cesar Chavez was a civil rights activist who mainly supported farm workers. He started the United Farm Workers labor union. He led the first successful farm workers union in American History. -
Great Postal Strike of 1970
It was a major strike that involved around 200,000 postal workers. The strike resulted with United States Post Office Department being replaced with the United Postal Service. It also gave collective bargaining rights to postal workers. -
