    First Womens College Basketball Team
    The University of California at Berkeley gave the world the very first womens college basketball team. The Cal women played the first game ever by a women's college team against an outside opponent in 1892, only a year after the game of basketball had been invented by James Naismith. A group of women from this school formed a team to play against outside opponents on Berkeley campus. This makes the Bears the first womens college team to play and represent their college.

    First woman to Sign Professesional Baseball Contract
    Elizabeth Stroud participated in minor league baseball and womens baseball. In professional baseball, she went by the name of Lizzie Arlington. She became the first woman to sign a professesional baseball contract, playing for the Philadelphia Reserves. Her attire included a carriage drawn by two white horses, and lifting her cap in response to applause, and she also wore black stockings and a gray uniform with a knee-length skirt.

    Madge Syers was a British figure skater. She was the first woman to compete at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1902. This event was originally an all male even, but however, the International Skating Union organized a seperate ladies championship. Syers went on to win the first two women events in 1906 and 1907, and she also won summer olympics in 1908.

    Betsy Rawls was an American professesional golfer. In 1960, she becomes the first woman to win the U.S Womens Open golf title four times. I believe that it is obvious that she is one of the best females golfers og her era as she went on to win eight major championships. In 1996, Syers was voted the Bob Jones Award providing her with the highest honor.

    A pioneer in the field of horse racing, in 1970 Diane Crump became the first female jockey to ride in the Kentucky Derby. A Derby win may have eluded her, but she scored more than 230 victories on track before leaving the sport in 1985. Since retiring from competition, Crump has worked as a trainer for many years and has her own horse breeding business.

    Title IX was enacted on June 23, 1972. This act states that no person in the United States should be excluded from participation of a sport depending among the basis of sex. Title IX has increased the chances of female participation in sport while it has sparked the biggest controversy on mens athletics. However, it is best known for its impact on high school and collegiate athletics.

    Cheryl Miller Scores 105 Points in High School Game
    Cheryl Miller was born in Riverside, California along with her NBA star brother, Reggie Miller. She was an high school All-American all four years of high school. On January 26, 1982, she scored 105 points in her high school game and she made history. Miller went on to play college ball at USC where she won 112 games and lost 20. Later in her career, she quit playing basketball to persue her broadcasting career. However Miller was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995.

    The Founding of WNBA
    The Womens National Basketball Association is a womens professional basketball league in th United States. The league was founded on April 4th, 1996 and is currently composed of twelve teams. The WNBA used to be a branch owned by the NBA but now is independently owned by the WNBA and is important to the growwth of the league. The president of the league goes by the name of Laurel J. Richie.
